The Artist

As a child, Charlotte was always found with either a paintbrush, a book, or a random natural object in her hands. These tendencies always stayed with her, and the drive to be artistically productive never dulled. It seemed natural for her to attend an art education, and she started at the renowned Sint-Lucas Academy in Ghent. However, something just did not fit in at the time. She returned to Amsterdam to obtain a Masters Degree in Persuasive Communications at the University of Amsterdam. Even though the academic setting was a very pleasant stimulus for her brain, she missed the artistic part of her life too much after four years of scientific endeavours. So after graduating, so decided to plunge back in in a different way. She started tattooing, painting and creating children’s books. This resulted in many great connections, lots of amazing opportunities to learn and dive into deep, sometimes very personal worlds. Slowly but surely, her path led to more and more painting, essentially looping back to the start, but in a completely different and more complete way.

The Artwork

The type of artwork Charlotte naturally gravitates to is realism. Creating the tiny details of an artwork brings her most satisfaction. A single strand of hair, the structure of a feather or the vein in a petal, all of these elements make up the unique structure of an image, and capturing that is a joy in itself. Yet the most inspiring part of the process is the transition from idea to sketch, as this moment is laden with momentum. One idea leads to a perfect match with another, which triggers the use of a little symbolism in another part and so on. In the end, the goal is to catch a feeling and to transfer that instant to the viewer.

The theme most important in Charlottes work is the connection between humanity and all other forms of life on our planet. Her inspiration stems from nature, science and mythology. This will always be intermixed with some personal experience, ensuring the authenticity of the conveyed emotion. Empowered women play a central part in Charlotte’s work, as the keepers of beauty, strong softness and feminine freedom.
